Random USB disconnects with Longer Ray5 20W on LightBurn

Hi everyone.

I’m having random USB disconnects while running jobs with my Longer Ray5 20W using LightBurn 2.1.02 on Windows 11.

The job starts normally but after a random amount of time (7 min, 20 min, 25 min…) the connection is lost.

LightBurn reports:

  • Connection lost
  • Common hardware problem

The machine reconnects automatically after a few seconds.

The strange part is that my previous laser (Two Trees TTS-55 Pro) had exactly the same issue using the same laptop.

Because of that I suspect the laptop rather than the laser itself.

I have already checked firmware, limits and GRBL settings.

Questions:

  • Has anyone experienced this?
  • Could this be caused by Windows USB power management?
  • Is WiFi communication more reliable than USB with the Ray5?
  • Any recommended settings to avoid random disconnects?

As a start toggle DTR Signal in Device Settings.

Absolutely.

No, WiFi is always the least stable option to choose.

Replace the power supply. Use a different power line. Remove electrical disturbance. Any heavy electrical device on the power line can make the laser stop. E.g. if a fan, kitchen machine etc. turns on. Make sure there is no such device on the same power line. And maybe add an EMI filter.
