Ready Status Question

I have checked the archives and found many threads discussing this behavior, but no answers as to why this behavior exists.

I know it’s a source of confusion for many users. In the laser window the status shows ready even though there is no connection to a machine. This appears to only be the case with GRBL machines as far as I can tell. The Laser window says ready, but the console says waiting for connection.

My Ruida shows Disconnected in the laser window when it’s not connected. I don’t have a Galvo machine, so I don’t know the behavior there.

It would be much less confusing, to new users especially, if the laser window said disconnected instead of ready when it’s not actually connected.

Oh yeah, I fully agree. I had countless support cases where users were confused by the “ready” message and still being disconnected.

Mine shows “Disconnected”.

I wonder why some show it different? I smell a research project coming our way!

I turned the laser on and it showed “Ready”, then went back to “Disconnected” when I turned the laser off. LB 1.7.07

As far as I know, only grbl like machines have a console.

You want to use the connection status in the laser window for anything other than a grbl type machine.

There is no communication that you can do with a Ruida via a console, same with the JCZ on the fiber.

:smiley_cat:

that is what Tim says, why the laser window show “ready” with no connection to the laser. I have an atomstack installed and set as default, my laser window shows disconnected at the moment

Maybe it’s a startup issue. I just started LB 2.0, and it showed ready despite that the laser is not connected:

The laser is connected to COM12 and COM15 is a different USB device. Once I switched to COM12, it connected successfully. When I now change back to COM15 again, the status correctly shows “disconnected”.
