I am using a Sculpfun S series laser. i’m still learning the software and various functions. at times, after burning my project, i realize that i need to burn it darker or deeper (mainly in wood). the problem i have is after the initial burn, the machine goes back to the origin, and when i initiate the new burn over the existing burn, there is an offset from the original burn. my machine is fastened down so it cannot move same as with the work piece. so there is no movement of the frame or work. the software is the only thing that has moved the laser between burns. am i missing something or doing something wrong?
I am guessing here, but it might be you are not aware you are moving the laser in between. Moving the laser by hand is a no-no. There is no feedback for positioning, so the system is not aware of the new position.
What you are trying to do, I do quite often.
In the Console window, enter $1=255. This will keep the steppers energized continuously, making it hard to bump or manually move the laser out of position.
I also use the Return to Finish Position (Device Settings window) to get the laser out of the way. My S30 Pro settings are X=10, Y=375 (mm).
If the mechanicals are properly adjusted, you will find rerunning a second cut or burn is very accurate.
no, i am not touching the laser at all. simply seeing the finished product, not touching anything, then restarting the project to achieve the desired cut. i know if anything moves by hand its automatically our of alignment. strange thing is it does return as it should to the exact same origin before i restart my project. thank you though for the input.
in addition, i don’t know the codes and how to decipher them. is there a list and what they do??
Is your origin back to home position?
back to original position. i tend to work off of centers verses from the home position.
this is awesome. thank you
Here is a list of Alarm and Error codes @misken put together… He is the undisputed Guru for Sculpfun machines.
thank you sir. i’ll read into this over the next few days.
You also may have a mechanical issue.
Try marking a spot and move around then back to your origin and see if it is moving from that spot.
The Xaxis set screws were loose on my brand new S30, so this is a real possibility.
