First post here. I recently bought Millmage cause I like lightburn very much and I should get a head start in CNC with it.
My question is:
I use the pocket operation with a 1/8" bit and a Rest pocket with a 1.5mm bit but it seem that the second bit didn’t cleared all the pocket. This is a very simple carve and the second bit should have cleaned it completely. Unless i didn’t understand that operation.
Thank you for your help.
I downloaded your .mage file. It does not match your Preview and is missing the 1/8” mill operation. With the full Pocket operation using the 1.5mm mill instead of the 1/8” mill, the Rest Pocket, which you did not provide, is meaningless.
We need it all like you discribed in your posting in order to review what is happening.
I looked at both files and I think you figured it out. The one with the Pocket and Rest Pocket has a lot of disconnected grooves. The pathing engine did not fully understand what you intended to do, but it tried its best.
The Star Trek emblem in the other file appears to create paths that make sense to MillMage. I believe that if you use the new logo and assign your operations to it, it will make more sense.
One thing I would watch out for is the fact that your 1/8” mill is a little more than double your 1.5mm mill. Not sure if this would make a difference, but it is worth noting. I have not played with Rest Pocket yet, but your logo gives me something to experiment with.
I’m not sure about what you call lot of disconnected grooves. For me this logo appear very continous. I don’t try to carve a MonaLisa, just a simple StarTrek emblem. I even try to not include the star in the operations but i still get incomplete result. With Vcarve the roughing and finishing pass completely remove all in the path. But not with MillMage Pocket and Rest Pocket. Not sure if this is a bug or my inexperience. The pocket do it’s job where the bit is small enough to pass and leave where the bit is too big. But the Rest Pocket operation clear some place but not all, even though the bit is small enough to do it’s job.
The Rest Pocket operation needs to have a little bit of “fudge factor” added to the operation to make sure I don’t miss anything because of rounding errors, and apparently I was doing it in the wrong direction.
The missing piece here is almost perfectly 3.175mm across:
By the way you guy’s are my Idols. Programming these kinds of tools is so much over my head.
And i really like the fact that we don’t need other program to control the CNC or LASER. Equally the fact that your products are affordable and your code is small.
