Return to Job Origin after framing

Hey all!

Just got an 80W CO2 laser with a Ruida controller. I came from a K40 with the Cohesion3D laserboard and I swear that when I framed my job the laser head would return to the job origin and not the machine origin.

Any way to do that? I like printing with “Absolute Coordinates” to lay out my job in real space but I cannot for the life of me seem to tweak where the laser goes when it returns from a frame (either square or outline).

I believe by default your laser will return to the currently defined origin position for the controller after each operation.

If you want to change that position then move the laser head to where you want it to be, then push origin on the control panel.

Note that the “User origin” Start From mode references from that position.

Do you know if there is a way to disable the “return to origin after each operation” thing?

You can set the return position in the Ruida controller via Edit → Machine Settings

There are three options

  1. absolute origin (machine 0, 0)
  2. no return
  3. origin

Don’t forget to write it back to the controller… I’d suggest you save the configuration with the save option.

This can be confusing, as far as I know, this is only applicable return here after the job has executed, not after framing… at least on my machine.

Good luck
