Installed 2.0.0 last night to check it out. Really liking the new changes, but I’m having issues with the camera.
For some reason 2.0.0 keeps telling me that my workspace is set smaller than what the machine is saying it is. I’m using the default config that came with the laser and double checked the work space matched up with what their website says. It’s trying to tell me it’s like 30mm larger than what it defaults to. Kind of weird …
Anyways, that seems to be throwing the camera off in 2.0.0. It’s like the camera is zoomed in really close when I apply the overlay. The camera window itself looks normal. But it makes it impossible to get an image lined up close to fine tune with frame.
Attached are a couple screenshots showing camera and overlay views.
The actual workspace is stored in the firmware. Sometimes they advertise a laser as 400x400 because it’s a standard size, but the laser is actually able to move 415x430 or so. So just check the firmware settings (machine settings) and adjust the size accordingly.
That’s weird … I let it change the workspace and then tried to move the gantry past the 390 mark the settings had and it hit a limit switch. So something in there isn’t right. I emailed support to see what Roly says.
Yeah, had to do it 3 times. Not sure if I missed something the first two last night, but when I did it a 3rd this morning it worked and camera is back to normal.
Never trust the manufacturer. The best way is to measure yourself: do a homing cycle. Then move the laser using the move buttons to the edge of the workspace for each axis. Start with large increments, then go over to 1 mm steps until you reach the limits. That’s your actual available workspace.
I had no laser yet where the advertisement value was the same as the measured one. Most workspaces are slightly smaller, newer lasers tend to have a slightly larger workspace to avoid criticism
Actually, in this case the manufacture is the one that has it right. Their config file has the right size and their website advertises it correctly. Not sure where Lightburn is getting the info. I can’t see anything in the machine settings anywhere. The old version of Lightburn never gave me that prompt. Just something that came up with the 2.0.0. beta.
Yes, that’s because the new version reads it from the firmware, as far as I know. Can you confirm that it’s definitely correct in the firmware? Then this could be a bug and might be worth being reported. I think, Roly uses their protocol, not plain grbl?
