Here is the image I am trying to engrave on my BWM Fiber 100w Mopa. I am using a PiBurn Grip2 for the rotary and seem to have everything setup good on that end (48000 steps per rotation). The image is warped due to the Urn I am engraving on is actually bowed in contour.
On the main screen, when I do a Frame, it shows the outline of the frame which is pretty close, but since it’s trying to project all at one time, it’s not perfect. The diameter is correct also.
But when I go to run it, and I click on Frame to see it separated into pieces, it rotates almost 180° from where I want it to start the engrave, and only shows the dot, not the outline of each section to click thru.
I was originally having an issue of Lightburn blowing out on me, but come to find out it was a “Out of Memory” issue which I resolved by lowering the resolution. But now I can’t get it to work on the image. As you can see from above, I am able to run cleaning passes to remove the clear coat, just not the image.
Anybody have any idea? I am desperate as this project has been a nightmare.
I can’t tell where on the art is positioned in the work area from your images, but if you don’t want the tumbler to move when you start you should position the bottom edge of the artwork on the centerline of the work area (Y axis rotary orientation) or the “Output Center” if different then the center of your workspace. Looks like your “Output Center” is set to the center of a 300X300 work area. Typically the rotary rotates to the bottom of the image (Y axis setup) to start and then moves slice at a time to the top of the image while engraving
Sometimes when I use the slice framing, the first slice does not project, but if I go forward in the order and then back, it does show.
Also, 48000 seems like a really large number for steps setting but your lettering in the image looks close so maybe that is correct. Does the “Test” button generate exactly 360 degrees rotation?
I would disable the “Run Whole Shapes” unless you are specifically needing that feature, then, your split should be equal or slightly larger then the “Max Shape Size” Or to put it the other way the “Max Shape Size” should be equal to or smaller then the splits.
If you are going for a full wrap you don’t want to taper your image even if the tumbler is tapered.
Not sure if any of these are your issue but some things to check anyway. Best of luck!
