We have a 500x700cm OMTech running off a Ruida controller. We are using the laser to engrave ceramic bottles on a chuck rotary axis. I import my artworks as PNG files as I find that it provides a smoother/cleaner engrave on the bottles.
However, when we engrave PNGs the machine cuts off around 2cm from the end of the artwork leaving it unfinished. The timer continues at this point with the laser head sat still and we have to stop the machine manually.
The settings are: Speed - 300, Power - 50, Image Mode - Threshold, Not using Pass through.
Another point of note is that the point at where the laser stops is not always consistent and can vary by around 5mm.
No error messages on the control panel or in lightburn.
Apologies, that was a bad description. What I mean is that the machine acts as if the engraving is continuing, as the timer clock on the Ruida control panel continues and the machine does not return to origin unless we manually press stop.
So if we don’t touch the machine, the laser head just sits idle over the partially completed job and never finishes it.
Yes - This is what’s confusing me. No error message is appearing so it’s hard to pinpoint what the cause is. I’m thinking of restoring to factory settings to get back to how the machine was when we first purchased it.
It has happened on multiple .lbrn2 files but I have attached an offending one here. As previously mentioned, we convert designs to PNG to get a smooth engrave on ceramic.
Before any kind of reset ensure you go to ‘Edit → Machine Settings’ and ‘save’ the original configuration.
When you do a factory reset, the Ruida has no knowledge of the ‘vendor’ settings and possibly others. So it will probably not operate properly without restoring the original configuration. Generally ‘factory resets’ on these controllers isn’t very productive.
I will look at you file and see if I see anything that looks ‘odd’…
These are vector paths…
If this isn’t the file that is being run, how do you convert and get it to the laser?
I think you’re right, I’m reluctant to reset it and create more problems and I’m not knowledgeable enough on it to be confident in fixing it.
Not sure why the image isn’t appearing in the file I’ve uploaded. I’ve deleted all of the guideline vectors from this one and tried again. I’ll also add a screenshot so you can see what it looks like our our screen.
Thanks for your help in trying to fix this. We are really stumped and it is stopping us from producing anything with consistency.
I don’t run my rotary with ‘Start From’ in ‘absolute coords’ I have ‘User Origin’ selected.
Have you tried this in User Origin mode. It should work in absolute coords mode.
I’ve never seen one of these just go out to la la land like you describe. This may require intervention from one of the @LightBurn people.
Don’t know how you set up your rotary and what you are using it for.
We may have to call in the big guns’ if we can’t figure this out… Don’t know how much diagnostic information is available via the software interface when it’s running a job.
Mine homes in the left/rear, so the image is flipped on my copy, not that it matters.
You have the image set to over 500 dpi, kind of detailed. Doubt you can produce a 0.0508mm dot…
Cut the dpi in half you will cut the time in half…
Make a backup of the settings…
There is a ‘debug’ option that enables the output of diagnostic data, don’t know if that would help. Only the Lightburn people can decipher it, as far as I know.
