How many of us make edits like this to text phrases all the time ? for the use case where we are cutting through material to make a sign or a template ? Or for some other use case ?
I do it a lot. This phrase took about 8 minutes to edit. Not counting the font related choices, bold or not or other modifier to apply, horizontal and vertical scaling and char separation; My process involves…
- making a rectangle slicer of the correct size relative to font scale
- dropping copies of the rectangle slicer on unique chars needing to save a center drop
- selecting the text phrase then selecting one rectangle slicer, then using boolean subtract tool. This action automatically converts the font to paths as a group.
- now select the next rectangle slicer and boolean subtract, repeat until all unique chars with slicers are ‘sliced’.
- now ungroup the phrase, and group those chars that are in two pieces.
- now copy and paste the sliced char to another same char with corner snap alignment. now delete the underlying un-sliced char. repeat for all the same chars in the phrase.
- repeat prior step for the unique sliced chars.
Has LB ever considered a ‘font saver’ feature such that we can create text with modified fonts ?
I just spent about an hour trying to use FontForge app to edit a font, it was a nightmare, I gave up. Perhaps with a lot of practice I could modify a font, but consider also that there are bold and italic versions of the same font.
Short of LB mojo, does anyone recommend a font editor ?
