In this thread the person points out that the percentage for the scale of an object always shows 100%.
I am asking if this issue has been addressed? It certainly seems like a flaw to me. If one has an object they want to scale they have no way of knowing what scale they set. If one wants to try different scales to determine what scale works they may not recall what scale they just tried or perhaps got the X-Y confused. Sure one could make physical notes or save each change as a new file while hopefully naming the scale percentage correctly.
I don’t see that this has been addressed with an option/preference/setting to have :The Scale % Reference to Original".
For Example: If one changes the percentage -63.27% it will show that percentage, obviously in reference to the original. Seems to me in order to have a percentage of something one needs to know the value of the change they made in reference to the original.
Thanks for your support of my quest to have a “Percentage Reference Original” option.
That percent change is made to the current values in the Width/Height boxes.
Mine: 250mm x 88% = 220mm, x 64% = 140.8mm.
Yours: 250mm x 88% = 220mm, x 64% = 160mm.
In EITHER case, it is up to you to know you started with 250mm. If 88% was not enough and you wanted to try 64%, then CTRL-Z and it will reset to your starting 250mm.
I rarely do a %-change more than once for a drawing. I calculate the ratio between the current size and the desired size, and multiply once. I do this a lot for drawings where the slot width is wrong for my stock (2.8mm) of Baltic plywood.
I use the “Percentages” relatively often, partly for the same problem that @Mike describes with the thickness of “almost” equal material thicknesses but primarily to reduce/scale up designs/drawings.
I will agree with Joe that it is not useful that we do not see what value we are working with or where we come from.
But, I think that if it is to be visible, then it should be object/shape base and displayed in shapeproppertis, for individual shapes. - Or it should be consistent for the entire project, and displayed and saved as a result after changing with the new values, i.e. we will have the opportunity to get back to the starting point. - Both suggestions/changes will be an improvement in usability.
It could for example be bold or red and stand as %25. There should, to keep it simple, only be a single % change possible, at a time. This still requires a new function - back to original…
