I am new to lightburn but am getting around it well.
I have just done a job in a plastic laminate and to get the best etching and cuts I created 6 layers, doing different things each with different settings.
How to I then save these settings as a material type?
Do I need to create a material setting for each layer created?
i.e
You can combine separate layers into one layer with sub-layers, then store that layer into the Material Library.
The next time around, you load the design, click the Material Library entry, and Fire The Laser.
However, there’s a gotcha: all the sub-layers apply to all the patterns in the layer, so you can’t apply separate operations to separate parts of the design. For example, you can’t engrave / etch a flower in the center of a coaster with a sub-layer, then cut around the perimeter of the coaster with another sub-layer.
So you may need two or three layers, each with sub-layers:
Etch (applies to fancy design in the middle)
Deep
Cleanup
Cut (applies to perimeter)
Rough
Fine
You can organize those under a single material with entries like Acrylic → Etch and Acrylic → Cut.
Basically, set up the Material Library with entries collecting the settings for common operations, then apply them as needed to whatever you’re doing.
