Shape is not square

Hi,
Ive noticed that one axis engrave wider than the other on a square shape (98x98mm) and cant figure out how to fix it. It turns out 98x104

Thank you in advance

Did you calibrate you X and Y axis when you got your machine? Have you checked it recently?

No and I have no idea how to do that. Ive got eleksmaker diode laser

I can only tell you that to my knowledge, there isn’t a laser controller / laser combinations out there that is correct in X and Y out of the box. I’ll give you the Ruida procedure, hopefully some of it will transfer. I will also add the skew check as it’s really part of the same procedure.

In your software, make a box a little bit smaller that the usable cutting are of your bed, and put a dashed line down the middle. Get a large piece of paper, I used old wrapping paper cut from the back side. Cut your square and measure it compared top what it should be.

In RDWorks, you go into the vendor settings, pswd RD8888, and set your step length. There is a button beside the number window with three dots. The brings up a sub window for you to enter the drawn lengths and the actual lengths of your box. Make the entries and re-test. It’s not uncommon to have to tweak it a mm or two to get it right.

So now the skew check. Take that same piece and fold it on the dashed line. If the corners match, congratulations, you are one of the few to not have a skew problem. If they don’t, your X gantry is out of square buy how ever much the corners don’t match. Mine is out by about 2.5mm over a 700mm bed.

I’m not correcting it at this time for two reasons. First, I don’t cut much for interlocking parts and it’s not much of a variant over short distances. Secondly, and more importantly, the drive axle for my Y axis is behind my laser tube. Unless I have a real need, it will wait until I have to replace the laser tube to get adjusted.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for pointing to the right direction. Ive found a formula and updated the steps in GRBL settings. Thanks again.

As to this thread, I assumed it was a LightBurn settings… :relaxed:
