Slow Ortur engraving with 20w

I have an Ortur lm3 with a 20 w laser. It is great at cutting but when I go to engrave images Svg images and all, the setting is nothing like the recommended ones from Ortur. It is saying I should run at 20000 but I have to run at 8000 to 9000 to get a decent image. All this is on birch plywood. any idea why?

How fast does your car speedometer go? Mine goes to 140 mph. There is no possible way to get it to go that fast unless it’s driven off a cliff.

There is massive force involved in acceleration and deceleration of the laser head over short distances. I have a 10w setup on an Ortur Pro2. 3000-3600 is about as fast as I try to engrave. The frame is not rigid enough to sustain even half of the “rated” speed from the manufacturer (claims 10,000 is possible).

You need to adjust your expectations to what the machine will deliver, IMHO

Yes acceleration is key to getting fast speeds . in practice I cant go over 4000 but if I have the acceleration right I can go over that .There is a machine setting for both of these, experiment and you will find what is practical. That info is always overstated by sellers .

Thanks i will look into that. If I slow it down I will obviously need to reduce power tool

You are right i never thought to think about that force. I will slow it
