Software Origin Will not reset

When using raw gcode, both the software and the machine know where origin is. I can repeatedly hit target coords, home, return to zero, etc.

The software is showing the user interface origin (Green DOT) about 25 mm to the left of 0,0 and indeed, any cut paths sent to the machine are showing that offset. There are NO offset settings configured in the software anywhere. This happens with every job. It is consistent from job to job.

Somewhere somehow lightburn lost it’s “origin” mind.

I would rather not reset the software to factory original settings, but I can try that if we need to. I would rather understand what happened and fix it.

Show a screenshot of your entire lightburn screen with your project visible and the laser window open.

These lines are the cause of your origin issue. There is also one higher. Anything on the screen affects the origin point. Either remove those lines or use Cut Selected Graphics AND Use Selection Origin. You will see the green origin box move with either of those choices.

No drawing element should effect the machine origin. NEVER.
The machine origin should be set up in settings, and only presented as a reference point on the GUI. In my machine’s case (small lightweight) all it did was cause belt chatter as the machine tryed to drive OOB. In the case of a heavy laser or plasma, the damage could have been serious.
I STRONGLY suggest that this feature be removed.

The green square in the lower left of the image represents the Job Origin, and the red square in the same place shows the Machine Origin. When using Absolute Coordinates these are always in the same place.

Here’s our documentation on the 3 start from positions in LightBurn and how to use them:

I have been using this software for three years. None of my jobs work right any more. Whatever changes they made in regards to origin calculation, whatever, it completely destroyed my workflow.

OK, I think I have figured this out. SOMEONE has been mucking about with the save file format again. All my jobs, which have been happily working with absolute coordinates in the past are suddenly set to using current position.
It’s a simple fix now that I understand it, but this is you guys problem.

This may be a case of being unfamiliar with some of the conditions for how “Start From” mode is changeable.

LightBurn will continue to use the same “Start From” mode unless one of these conditions is met:

  1. You change this directly
  2. You load a LightBurn file created on a system where the “Save Job Origin to Project” has been enabled in LightBurn settings. And the change will only be apparent if it’s different from the one you were currently using, otherwise there won’t seem to be any change

Is it possible you’re facing the second scenario?
