Speed settings change when sent to laser

Need some help. My equipment: Blue/Grey Preenex Chinese Laser, 50w co2 with Ruida controller (6442G), CW5000. Machine is approximately 2-3 years old with 89 hours run time. I’m running LightBurn 1.4.03.

My problem: Until recently I had no issues with this machine. Over the past two months I have a problem with the SPEED settings changing when the file is sent to the machine. If there is one layer the speed setting changes and if multiple layers, all speed settings change. For example, if I set a layer to 200/35 or anything else, then save the file and send it to the machine from my laptop (at the machine), the speed setting is different on the controller screen. Sometimes it changes to 3 or 342 and sometimes to 6. Looks like it is changing to mm/sec.

I have tried a new USB cable and have also saved the file to a thumb drive and then copied that onto the machine. Doing so uses two separate usb inputs on the machine and the change of speed setting still occurs.

I’m at a loss here and need to fix the problem. Does this sound like a controller issue? I even tried reloading 1.3 and the same thing happens.

Screen shots are settings at the pc. The other pic is at the laser after sending the file. You can see how the speed units changed.

Lightburn is setup for inches/sec in your photo.

Usually we use mm/s, but speed is speed no matter the metric used. However 200 in/s is 200 * 25.4 or 5080mm/s… Most machines top out around 600mm/s

Check your units… The Ruida and most all Chinese controllers work in mm not inches. You can use it, just remember what you’re doing.

The display is showing 2540mm/s…

My suspicions are the number is too large and it’s assuming a conversion mm/s, so it sets it to 1000in/s or 2540mm/s

Not a good idea to put speed in as X when your X is based on a unknown unit or metric…

For three years I have used inches with no issue. Changing now would mess up all of my library not to mention I don’t like it.

Why are my settings changing?

Does you machine go 200 inches/s?

Good catch.

I was helping someone set up a new machine with LB and all of my settings were changed to show them what to do. I remembered having my settings in inches so that’s what I resorted to. I just went back to check some old files and found that I was only partially correct.

The settings were originally set to inches/mm/sec so that is what I was used to seeing as inches. I guess that’s what a little bourbon will do to an aging fool.

Thank you , thank you.

I don’t need the bourbon, I’ve got aging and fool nailed …

Glad you got it sorted out…

I marked the thread solved…

Have fun…
