I’m wondering if the following is a default property in Lightburn or specific to my machine. (Trocen AWC)
When using “Fill” the head on my gantry CO2 will move in the Y direction first followed by X to the selected start corner (bottom right in my case). This is sometimes undesirable due to upstands on the part. Is there a way to force it to take a direct path to the start point by default? My work around at the moment is to create a 1mm line with zero power at the top and give it a priority value lower than the engraving so it goes there first.
The attached pic probably explains it better.
With the caveat that I know approximately nothing about Trocen controllers, there is, in general, no way to affect what the controller’s motion planner does with any specific layout. Your workaround of a specific layout tweak may be as good as it gets.
The same problem can occur at the end of the pattern when the controller parks the laser head at a specific position (with various options for that position): there is no way to control the trajectory from the last pattern point to the parking position. The laser head will blithely (attempt to) bulldoze its way through any and all obstacles sticking up from the platform, taking a different path this time than it did the last dozen times.
IMO, the only way to avoid all those problems is to simply not have anything sticking up where it can get hit, which is certainly easier said than done for some objects one might want to laser.
The vise on my milling machine bears a few scars incurred before I internalized that concept …
Thank you ednisly for your reply. You confirmed my suspicions. After a few years now I’ve kinda got used to it but still have the occasional woopsy grinding the ribs off the belt. I too come from a CNC background and can identify with your experiences. Cheers.
