when I put a small 100x40 piece in to surface I was using , yes I know a small bit to be surfacing with !but a 3.175 or 1/8” end mill I offset a square the same size to 1,5mm outside to make sure all the piece gets surfaced !done this plenty of times with creat pro>
just doesn’t work??? thoughts please, as its something many of us doo regularly???
Not sure if I read that right, but it seems if the center line of your cutter is within the boundries of your part, Preview and cutting both work. I do not know if this is a bug or by design.
I am not sure how many would surface with a 1/8” mill, unless it is a very small part. I believe surfacing is to ensure the surface (X&Y) is the same distance everywhere from the Zaxis.
I will explain in more detail! Doing a small male inlay, 100mmx40mm and need to surface first! Already had the 3.175 mm bit in and would be pocket clearing before the vee bit that’s why the 3.175 m bit ! The size of work piece is as above ! so I offset either 1 mm or 1.5mm not sure to make sure the ends of the surface area was clean ! For me this is normal practice, just not normally this small a bit so that’s not even 1/2 of the bit diameter and yes you may have it programmed that way! But having the start at top left stops me from making work piece larger, well makes it difficult anyway! Hope this helps explain why I’m using a 1/8” bit to surface this small piece! I’m surmising the bit size doesn’t effect the problem, maybe it does, your the brains here👌
No, surfacing a small inlay section with a small mill makes perfect sense. I just suspect you are going slightly out of bounds for the pocket area designed. I have seen situations where the system (not MillMage) had to be told the tool diameter was different than it actually was to get the desired result. And this was with well established CAM software.
Sorry I do not have an exact answer/solution for what you are experiencing.
