Switch over to LB from Laserworks

Hi all. I am new to LB. My laser has the ruida 300 seres dsp controller running laserworks, perviously on a mac using parallels. My parallels died, so now I am switching over. I do not want to lose all the files that are currently downloaded to the laser controller, and
I have a dual head laser with the heads attached side by side together.
It has been a long time since I set up the ruida controller. If I remember correctly they had me enter a smaller bed size when entering the machine specs.
My 2 questions are then: will I lose the files in memory when I switch to lightburn, and is it straight forward to read the current assigned bed size in the controller from light burn. I would like to avoid head crashing.
Thanks in advance Marty

The Ruida contains all of this and changing software shouldn’t be an issue…

Saying that, you should always backup configuration of a controller… it’s easy to do in only a few mouse clicks… Worst case, is you have to reload the original…

Can you make a backup of the controller with your current software? I’d assume so since it sounds like you can change things and write back to the controller.

Is it connected via your lan or USB?

Does Lightburn connect OK?

Hi Jack, Thanks for the quick reply. I was using Parallels on the mac to run windows. When the ssd filled up I needed to clear out some unused files and that made the windows partition stop working. I haven’t tried to connect the laser to Lightburn yet. I am hoping that I will be able to read the configure file and that I can use that file when I set up that laser in Lightburn. I will be using USB. The laser is in my shop which doesn’t currently have a computer desk set up.
I guess I will look up how to read write the config files and also download all my older files of the “memory files” section of the controller.
Thanks Marty

On the Ruida, the only way to save a file that’s in memory is from the machine console. And only to a usb stick… it’s an RD file, so isn’t editable… at least in Lightburn… it’s machine code for the Ruida…

I’m not sure what file you are looking to recover, but you have a pretty standard laser, so it should just be a quick run through the device setup…

Make sure you save a copy of the controllers configuration… you can do that from the machine settings.

Mine is also in the garage. I used a $12 wireless bridge/router out in the garage until the Lightburn Wireless Bridge/software was released… Had an extra PI so I loaded it, been up on it for over a year… The software is free, just write it to an sd card, plug in the stuff and it runs…

USB is a poor way to communicate… Ethernet is much more dependable and better with the PI.

If you have any issues, sing out…

Good luck
