The Tool Layers only button does not work

On RC9, the Tool layers only button stopped working. More specifically, it works if there is a Tool Layer in the selection. However, if there is no Tool Layer, the slider is not active. Previously, I could enable it to use the counter, but the outline was not displayed. How can I restore this functionality?

@IgorZh
Did you annotate a screenshot from docs because it’s showing you on 2.0.05 rather than 2.1 RC-9?
The other thing I’d ask is to test it on RC-11, please. You should have already had a pop-up to upgrade.

Yes, I took the screenshot from another place, as I have a localized version.

I don’t understand what you mean by “I could enable it to use the counter”. Can you explain that part?

If you have no tool layers, leaving “tool layers only” on meant no framing, and it mostly confused people, so the latest version detects there are no tool layer shapes, and turns off the toggle.

Look, before I pressed F1 and I was shown a standard window with a counter, contour selection, etc. I have a large order, a lot of identical engravings. So that the red beam does not drive all the time in pauses, I turned on “Tools layer only” - and the red beam was turned off. With the new versions, this switch only works if there is a service layer T1 or T2 in the selection.

Are you saying you would open the framing window, and just use that toggle switch to turn off the red light so it wasn’t on all the time?

You can just press ESC to close the framing window, then F1 to bring it back, which would honestly be easier than finding the toggle on the screen.

It was, it worked and it was convenient!
I can have the engraving to go for 20 minutes. I start it and leave. I come back 2 hours later - and it’s still driving with a red marker. Why? If I can just turn it off? Why did they remove what worked?

Because we had no idea anyone used it that way. That’s certainly not what it was for.

If you aren’t using repeat or continuous marking, you can just close the framing window and the job will keep running to completion. You also don’t need to show the framing window at all to run the job - there’s a toggle for that as well.

Yes, but in this case, the counter doesn’t work! And I need to count, as I have different quantities on the engraving.

Ok, so I’ll consider this a feature request to pause the framing from within the framing window. The toggle switch you were using isn’t for that, which is why it was “fixed”.

We call this phenomenon “space bar heating”. Note that this is not intended as ridicule - just acknowledgement of the fact that everything we change, no matter how small or “correct”, breaks something for someone.

To be honest, I feel a certain excitement about being able to leave feedback for the developers of this amazing product.
