The whole job is not cutting

I am having a problem where the laser is only cutting a small portion of the job. I’m thinking I am missing something in the setup (most likely a simple thing) but can’t figure what it is. There are 4 objects in the file but only a portion of one that is cut.

From looking at your file, the only thing I see is that all your A frame pieces are duplicated. That wouldn’t cause them to not cut, rather it would cause 6 passes in the same area vs. the 3 you have set. Look at your preview window and play it through. You will see what I mean.
That being said, what does your preview window show the job will do? Does this reflect what is actually happening. Did you let the entire job run or did you stop it when you noticed it making more than 3 passes in this area?

I did not realize the A frames were duplicated. The preview window shows all 4 items being cut. I never stopped the job. The picture shows where the job stopped it.

Tim, the problem must be in the file itself. I tried another stand from the bundle and it cut fine. Going to try out stands and see if it’s just the one is bad.
Thank you for the quick reply.

You didn’t sy this in your initial post. Were there any error messages in the console window when it stopped?

That could be, but it would be nice to know why it stopped.

Good question on the error messages. I never thouht of looking. I will run it again and check. Not sure if I’ll have time today. If not I will do that in the morning.

Speed may be too fast. If this is a diode laser recommended setting is mm/min
Try changing and see if this helps. Then use something like 200 mm/min for speed
Or just change inches/min to 4 and see what happens

I will adjust the speed and see what happens. Thanks for your suggestion!

Tim, the job stopped again. Here is a screenshot of the consul.

That message isn;t really telling me anything. I just ran your file on my machine, no errors. I did remove the duplicate layers first so it only did 3 passes on those areas.
Does it fail at the same position every time or is it somewhat random?
I’m going to suggest running the fie at 50% power instead of 100% and see if it still fails. It might be that your power supply is having a bown out after running at 100% for so long. Just a theory.

That looks like a fresh restart to me. A loose power cable going open or an incorrectly wired limit switch shorting briefly can cut power to the controller on the laser engraver and force the restart.

Thank you for the screenshot! Always helpful.. When you get to this point, if you’re so inclined, scroll up in the Console window… and capture some more. I’d like to see if there’s a clue why you’re getting what looks like a restart.

John, I will send you another screenshot tomorrow. I just ran a job yesterday that last over 2 hours with no problem but something diffidently in going on.

Did the 50% power but it still stopped. The pic shows where it stopped. X marks what was cut. This is getting weird. Sometimes it only cuts the slot and other times goes a little further as shown in the pic.

Hi all, don’t have any idea whats going on but I ran the file again a couple of times and it worked perfect. :winking_face_with_tongue:  So I guess for now at least life is good. Want to thank you all for your help and suggestions.

Hi, as Tim said, take a look at the wiring and see if everything is correct, with no short circuits. As a tip, also uninstall and reinstall the machine’s program.

Thanks Dan, I will do that.
