Tool mode in cut layer

Hi
I selected the letter icon to write some words but in the cut layers under mode it shows as tool? I want it to be line. This also happened for two lines I drew. Not sure where I have gone wrong.

You can select the item and choose a different color in the bar at bottom of the screen. The last 2 colors in the list are tool paths, no able to be cut.
