Tools/Cut Shapes and /Apply Mask to Image remain grayed out

I have a large engraving to do and would like to lesect a small section to adjust engraving power and speed and check alignment of the cut lines. I’ve tried several solutions to similar questions but the two commands mentioned in the title remain grayed out and not available. I’ve only been using Lightburn for a few days. Some small test images came out very nice, but now parts are getting prteey big,in this case about 250 x 150 mm. I’d like to verify that everything is aligned and laser settings are correct before committing to a full size burn.

This is an image that you are trying to mask?
Use mask for raster images.

I found the problem. I had first developed a set of vectors that represented the mortar lines on the building. I then carefully selected stone faces from another wall andfit them into the mortar lines. This created the building front with both he mortar lines, cutlines for windows and doors, and the overall cutlines for the wall. This is a very large engraving and I wanted to use a small segment of it that inclulded a window and a good selection of stones to experiment with to determine the laser settings (using grayscale to control laser output) and the contrast of the image. The problem was that With both the image and the cut lines in the same file, neither Cut Shapes or Mask Image would work.

I got around this by trimming each separetaly and then binging in the two files seaprately. I then had to align them by eye. Not very precise, but good enough for setting process variables.

It would be convenient to be able to cut/trim/mask layers no matter what else is in the file.
