Tried everything..complete newb

Got myself a 3018 pro a few weeks ago and been using it fine as a CNC but when it comes to the laser it’s been nothing but trouble (im guessing user error, I’m new). I got it burning basic shapes in UGS fine but I can not seem to get it working in lightburn which I paid for.

I’ve followed the basic guide and the set up for 3018 and even copied someone else’s $numbers with the same machine in another post on here…still no luck

Everything off, I manually set the home of the machine to the front left. Turn it on, start lightburn and set G92 X0 Y0. I have every possible origin set to the front left and when I put a test shape on the grid it tells me it’s out of bounds and both motors on the laser are grinding trying to go the wrong way and when I have got it to burn something it turns circles into an oval being wider along the X axis.

When everything is restarted, home is manually set if I use the arrows in the “move” tab it does exactly what I want, it just won’t burn where I want. Any help would be appreciated. I’m going round in circles and feel like I’m just making matters worse.

What ‘Start From’ setting are you using? https://lightburnsoftware.github.io/NewDocs/CoordinatesOrigin.html

Edited…

Apologies. I have been concentrating on “absolute” coordinates. As I’m only learning I have been trying to learn one step at a time.

Set $10=0 so it’s reporting coordinates relative to your manual zero point. That might be all it needs.

Thank you I will try that in a bit and get back to you. In the meantime, Every axis is moving double than the amount I want it to, I have it set to move 10mm when I want to move and it moves 20mm.

Also, after changing all these figures to suit the laser, is there anything I have to change to use it as a CNC again apart from just disable laser mode?

No, that should be it.
