Trying to use "Trace"

I recently upgraded to the newest Lightburn version and didn’t have any problems until today. I need to do a trace of a couple images but the trace tool in the “tool” section is dimmed. I’ve tried everything but still can’t figure it out. Can someone help me with this? Thanks!

Select the image
Then right click
Then select TRACE

Does not work? How about a screen shot to help us see what you are seeing!?

This probably sounds bad… but how do I take a screen shot, I’m on Windows 10

Also when I right cllick I get a box but it doesn’t have the trace in it.

Shift+win+s opens a snip tool. Drag a box around what you want to copy.

Come back to the forum and press CTRL+V to paste. This works on a lot of programs and is pretty dang handy to know.

I’m hoping this works and also thanks so much for helping me out.

Ok, lets see if this one works

Great job with the snip! That is perfect

Please show what your cuts/layers window is showing. I bet you already have an SVG object, instead of a raster image (.PNG or BMP)

Thanks! Yes, it is an SVG not a .png. Do you think that’s the problem?

Yes, no need to trace an svg.

You trace an image to get an SVG out of it

The image is made up of small blocks of different colored greys and blacks. An SVG or vector, is a line that is defined mathematically. You can zoom in on an SVG and it does not distort. An image will get blurry as you go in zoom.

We all started in the hobby with no clue - you have made a large jump along the knowledge path today. Keep poking at it, and please feel free to ask any question - even if it is silly or has been asked before, there will be people who walk the lazer hobby path later that will have the same questions.
