New to this. Using Two Trees 5.5 Laser Engraver. LB Pro 2.1.04. GRBL to control the laser. No limits.
Until yesterday was working fine.
Now it loses its position. I set my Home with Manual Homing. When I run a job it cuts it wherever it wants to, not where I laid it out. The file is not cut correctly. It appears that during the cutting it “forgets” where it is and does not cut correctly. I am using a file that cut correctly in the past.
When finished the laser does not return to 0,0. It goes to Y0, and X is wherever it finished. It thinks its at 0,0. If I try to move it to 0,0, it does not move. If I move it to any coordinates and then send it back to 0,0, goes back to the position it was in when the job finished. It never has done this before.
When I manually home and do not try to cut a file, it seems to be ok. I can move the head with the software and it behaves correctly.
Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated. The settings look ok. I have not messed with the settings since getting the machine. One thing that happened yesterday, one of the stepper motors got untouchably hot. Today they are fine.
This sounds like a lost motion issue, specifically with the X axis. Please inspect your X axis and ensure the belts are taught, and the motion system is clean and lightly lubricated.
I think @Colin is correct. This sounds like something was binding. Unfortunately you did not say which stepper motor, so it may be related to the positioning issue or not.
Is it repeatable or does it go different places with the same design?
Also make sure you are not using User Origin or Current Position when you have been using Absolute Coords.
Thank you for the response. I checked the X Axis. Everything is clean and working correctly. It had more resistance when moving it manually then the Y axis, so I did loosen the belt a bit.
Tested and the cuts worked correctly. Moved to where I wanted, and returned to Home automatically. Had one recut the same location and did so with no problems.
Tried a test again, and it did not move to where I wanted it to, cut the file fine, but did not return to Home when finished. It is about an 1" off from original Home on the X axis. The machine has reset its Home position.
Thank you for the response. The stepper that got hot was the X Axis motor. Checked for binding or debris. Nothing. Did loosen the belt a bit. It seemed to have more resistance then the Y axis.
I am using Absolute Coordinates.
I am going to perform more tests.
Same test file. Two cuts, perfect. Returned to my Manual Home when finished. Third cut, I moved the cut to a new location. Moved to the new location and cut correctly. Did not return to the original Home. Home shifted over about an inch. Cut again and the location shifted over about an inch to the right. Returned to a new Home location. Cut again, and it moved over about another inch.
I set my Return to Finish Position the same as yours (0,0), except as noted below. The Set Finish Position button fills these fields in with wherever the laser is sitting at the time.
I ran your part, it went to 0,0 as expected.
I moved it up about 4" in each direction, ran it. Went to 0,0 as expected. Moved it back.
Made a CTRL-D duplicate and moved that up and over. It finished at 0,0 as expected. Deleted the duplicate.
Did a CTRL-C, CTRL-V and pasted it up and over. It finished at 0,0 as expected.
I did notice your file had metric for the control settings, but your window above shows the position in inches. Is it possible you bumped a setting accidentally?
In design, I flip back and forth constantly. For the control, it is always metric. I can do this because my Link Units switch is turned off.
Thank you for testing the file. Machine does not work right for me. As far as I can tell, everything is set to Imperial. The file is an Internet download.
Working with TwoTrees on hardware solution. To me it seems a hardware or perhaps something in the firmware is broken.
