Unenven mark intensity across surface

I’m at a bit of a loss so any help would be appreciated!

I’m marking some stainless steel with my new 60W Cloudray MP-60 Neo galvo fiber laser. I’ve noticed though that the edges of my marked objects look lighter than the center. I originally thought this was a leveling issue as one side of the mark was lighter than the other, but after leveling the laser head properly, the shade gradient just seems symmetric about the center of the scan length.

I’m fairly certain that the work piece is flat. I marked the edge in the attached photo to make it easier to ensure that the piece was flat (just checked for any gaps along the edge and the laser bed below, so it’s flat relative to that).

I can definitely also see a difference in brightness as the laser moves across the workpiece while marking (brightest in the center).

Anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

BTW, I’m using an F290 theta lens with a 200x200mm scan area, and the marks are all within this and centered. Just wanted to clarify.
