Using U Axis as Secondary Y

My students and I are building a 10’ x 5’ (3050 x 1524mm) 120w CO2 in my Advanced Manufacturing class. We have and OMTech 1000x700mm machine but we want to cut out full size arcade cabinets from full sheets and so building this monster machine.

We want to use a motor on both sides of the Y axis. I would prefer not to use 2 sets of wires coming from the brain to separate motor controllers but I can if I have to. I was hoping there was a way to use the U Axis output on the Ruida and remap it for a secondary Y axis.

Is this possible?

This would be required in the firmware, and as far as I know this is not possible. The most common way to do this is to use a single beefy motor in the middle, and use a shaft to drive belts on either size of the gantry, like this:

That is how our OMTech is setup but I wanted to use 2 motors. We will ghost the signal from the board to the stepper controllers.
