Vector PDF from Illustrator

Howdy all. Newbie to LB. I have created some simple art that I want to engrave into some wood. It has a black fill in Illustrator with text converted to outlines. I ‘save as’ a PDF from Illustrator. When I import the PDF, it does not show up filled but with the dancing ants outline. I am assuming this will not engrave? How do I correct this?

My usual workflow is to export a BMP (600ppi) and import. That works perfectly but I am getting fine sawtooth edges when engraving. I was hoping a vector import would smooth out the engraving? Thoughts? See attached.

Do you have it set to fill?

Umm, very much a newbie . . . how do I do that?

Yours cuts/layers window.

The marching ants are just showing you what you currently have selected.

Mr. Kallenberger — thank you, please see attached.

I set the MODE to Fill but I see no difference? Am I thinking correctly, that a vector shape will engrave sharper than an image/raster file?

Do you have this enabled in settings?

Vectors do better.
Also in window tab > view style > filled

I did not! And now:

My original workflow out of Illustrator was to export a BMP at 600ppi — would say 1200ppi have a positive effect to eliminate the sawtooth edges?

I can’t wait to test this . . . and I can’t thank you enough for your patience and help.

Also, if I may ask, I see the Interval is set to 0.100 in LB, the BOSS laser I have indicated it should be 0.065 . . . is that critical? Could that be causing the sawtooth edges?

You need to do an interval test under laser tools tab.
Would need to see a close up of your problem. Probably need a scanning offset adjustment, under device settings.

Mr. Kallenberger — thanks, is that a fairly intuitive process?
