Vertical lines in engraving Front to Back mainly in images

Hi hope some one can help. I am engraving on 150 x 150 ceramic tiles. I keep getting vertical lines i.e. front to back right across the engraving. I have a YoraHome 3018Pro with extended bed and a carriage for a 500w motor and a 40w laser from YoraHome

Could we see a picture of the problem? Can we also see a screenshot of the image in LightBurn along with your settings etc?

Almost looks like the teeth on your drive gear or tensioner. How is the belt tension?

Be nice to know what kind of machine we are dealing with… but looks like ‘curtains’ to me…

Final ‘fix’…

:smile_cat:

The machine type was in the message so have a read

Don’t have belt just the stepper motor and the lead screw for the laser carriage

What image mode are you using? What material is that you are engraving into?

Sorry, missed it there… I just click on your username and it should give me the information, which is didn’t.

@Dominic has a good angle…

Good luck

3018 is a lead-screw machine based on a CNC mill.
They’re generally a lot stiffer machine than most belt driven lasers.

They can resonate and and that vibration can make curtains at some frequencies. I would reduce the speed and power by 9% and see if the situation improves.

All of my 3018 types are pretty stiff, even the one with acrylic side panels. They are small, so it’s easier to make them more stiff.

The weakness of this design is the round ‘ways’ that the head slides on. Round is inherently flexible and I can twist it with just the original motor power.

They are great fun no matter what you think of them overall…

I agree. I quite like mine. I apologize if I gave the impression that i didn’t.

The image was a *.PNG if that is what you mean by mode and the material is a painted 150 x 150 ceramic tile

Yes I have found that I have to reduce speed to a maximum of 400mm/min and power between 30 and 40%. Thanks for the advice. I just thought I would be able to have a speed up around the 600mm/sec as 400 is pretty slow

Here is some more information about Image Mode… it is a setting for how LightBurn engraves your image and is important.

https://lightburnsoftware.github.io/NewDocs/CutSettings-Image.html#image-mode

Thanks for the link has some good info. Yes the Mode I use is Stucki

If you can change it by speed then it’s a pattern created with speed/power/dpi. Might be able to speed up and correct by changing the power level, pwm frequency and/or dpi.

Laser is still only on or off.

Ditto…

Good luck
