Waiting for connection, Port failed to open

New user here.
LightBurn is not communicating with MecPow X3.

“Waiting on connection. Port failed to open. Already in use?”
Checked power, Checked USB connection. Checked “Emergency Stop”. Triggered Reset Laser button.
I Computer recognizes the USB re-connected because of the audible “chime”.

Under device, “find device”, does not find anything. Manually, I chose “GRBL”, but no luck.

Does anyone have any ideas to what I must do?

Computer laptop is a HP Pavilion MS Windows 11.

After you selected GRBL, and completed the rest of the questions, what COM port numbers appeared in the Laser window (Choose) box?

Thank you for the interest in my question. It reports comm6

If you check windows device manager, which COM port does the laser get assigned? If none, you need to install the CH340 driver if you didn’t do that already.

The port reports “com 6”.

LightBurn or Windows device manager?

I’m looking at the Lightburn screen reporting “com 6”

Windows device manager shows CH340 (COM6)

Then this seems to be correct. Try LaserGRBL to check if it’s a software problem.

This is interesting: I re-installed CH341SER_Windows and now the laser MecPow X3 is recognized. BUT, once I restart the HP Pavilion Laptop, the problem of not recognizing the MecPow returns . Evidently, I have to do a fresh install every time I work with the MecPow X3 laser using Lightburn. Oh well, at least it’s a functional “work-around”.
