I tried using MillMage v0.8.00-RC-4 with my Sainsmart 3030 Max and all was well. A little while later I started it up again but got a “waiting for connection” message in the console. I have checked the USB cable and it works with Candle but I cannot connect my CNC. I thought there was somewhere I could check the COM port (currently using port 3) but I can’t find anywhere in the software to do that. Does anyone have an idea what is wrong? Thanks.
Windows admin tools, computer management, device manager.
I know how to find the COM port in device manager, but I thought there was somwhere in the MillMage setup that allowed selection of the COM port. I can’t find it.
It’s not in setup, it is in the job control panel.
Thanks Chris. I found the job control panel and it shows COM 3 as the selected port but I still am showing a waiting for connection message. I have tried Easel and Candle and they both work perefectly well using COM 3. I have been a Lightburn user for some time and love the interface, hence me wanting to use MillMage but if I can’t connect my 3030 I can’t use it, The fact that it works with 2 out of 3 software apps would suggest the problem lies within MillMage. As far as I can see, I am the only person who’s reported this issue so it looks like it’s a setup issue or some sort of conflict on my Dell laptop and/or Windows 11. I don’t think I mentioned that I did have MillMage working when I first installed it a week or so ago, but I only had the problem when I reinstalled MillMage some days later.
If the Ch34x driver is showing on Com 3 I wonder if its a case of Lightburn (if its running) or some other program using Com 3 so its not avail for Millmage.
Hi Chris, I thought of that myself, but it that were the cause, then I would think that Candle, Easel or Lightburn wouldn’t work. Think I’ll try going back to Lightburn V1.7 to see if that changes things and giving MillMage another try, might even uninstall Candle. Easel’s cloud based so it shouldn’t be a problem.
While watching Device Manager, plug and unplug the CNC USB cable. You should see it appear and disappear as COM3. If that works, then maybe a setting in MillMage got changed between the working and non-working installs. Baud rate and DTR setting could do it.
Hi Mikey, just got back from holiday and started up Millmage - it all works well and connects to my 3030! No idea what caused that, but I can start experimenting now. Thanks to those who offered advice/help.
Maybe your machine needed a vacation too? ![]()
I’ll mention it as a troubleshooting tip ![]()
