Want to cut out image not etch it

Not sure I worded the title right, but how do I get an image basically the outside boarder? As you can see in the attachments I want to cut the the outside boarder then etch the inside. Hope I didn’t confuse anyone, any help would be great and please let me know if you need my info or questions

You’ll probably start with an image (pixel)
There are always several paths that lead to the same goal.

I would proceed as follows:

  1. Import the image into Lightburn
  2. Trace the image (Alt-T)
  3. Ungroup the resulting elements
  4. Remove unwanted details.

If you’re not very familiar with lightburn but are comfortable with an image editing program, it can sometimes be easier to remove unwanted details using the image editing program, depending on the complexity of the image and your skill level.

There are people much better at this than I am, but I can see those two images are not compatible. If you lay either one on top of the other, you have an overlay where some areas are burned twice.

If you had provided one image or the other, I would have said do a trace and then you could use the Offset Shapes tool to create a line for cutting it out.

Cutting the outside boarder…as stated above and then some Node editing.

I’d use Trace and cut out everything except the skull, scrolls and whatever else you want to keep by Ungrouping and using the scissors tool.

Re group and scale to fit what you keep into the frame that your going to cut out so nothing overlaps into the leafy edges.
