Was there an update to how emoji unicode are parsed?

I updated from v1.7.08 to v2.0.04 and noticed that the software does not seem to be parsing unicode characters (I believe is the term) corrrectly anymore.
This is the sample text:

This is the sample :beating_heart: and  emoji

img1 (windows 64bit - v1.7.08) pasting the text works as intended.

img2. (windows 64bit - v2.0.04)
It doesn’t render the text.

img3 (windows 64bit - 2.0.04)
Modifying by removing the first emoji and pressing backspace next to the 2nd one.

img4. (Mac OS 15 - v2.0.04)
Renders the text with the emoji’s missing.

Is this a bug, or an intended update?
I rely heavily on how this worked in v1.7.08, please if possible, can we have this reverted.

You can always downgrade back to 1.7

@JimNM thanks for the helpful response.

The first sample uses Arial, which has a rich set of emoji.

The other samples use Lofty Goals, which may not have equivalent emojis.

What happens when you change the first sample to use Lofty Goals?

@ednisley
I thought it might have been the font too. Not at my windows machine right now, but I will check it out on that too (from what I remember lofty goals works aswell as that is the most common font I use).

Arial in v2.0.04 (Mac OS)

Lofty goals in v1.7 (Mac OS) ( notice the 2nd heart pasted differently here, than in the one above)
I believe there was an update on how it is parsed.

Given all the other things that changed, yeah, that’d be unsurprising. Eliminating an easy gotcha helps pin down the real problem.

@soniclab: You surely know who can answer this one.

Always happy to point out a solution that I can help with.

You stated that you MUST have the abilities found in 1.7….ergo, ipso facto and petrol bismol…use ver 1.7. LB does not cripple old versions when new updates are offered. Updates are 100% not required, and are completely optional to the end users.

You are most welcome, amigo. Feel free to reach out if you need more valid, even if unwelcome, advice.
