Why isn't the engraving uniform?

Assuming:

  • All the missing pieces and jagged lines are intentional
  • The material is acrylic
  • Scanning direction parallel to the X axis

Then:

  • New batch of acrylic with sub-standard quality control
  • Worn / loose X axis belt
  • Loose mirror
  • Loose focus lens

More details on the speed / power / machine will be helpful, but it’s almost certainly a mechanical or material problem rather than a setting / configuration / software issue.

Plexiglass is cast
Narrow but slightly worn strap
Scanning direction perpendicular to the X axis

Those two are working against you.

Scanning along the Y axis means the whole weight of the gantry must rumble back and forth. Typically the scan is along the X axis for better acceleration and less mechanical motion.

If any of the belts are visibly worn, it’s time for replacements. The patterns can come from the belt not fully engaging with the pulley, producing periodic weirdness as the slippage accumulates before relaxing in the other direction.

I can tell from the photos that your line interval is too low. Try raising it up to 0.13 and see if it improves.
