Experienced Lightburn user needs advice. My Xtool D1 Pro will only “fill” on the X axis. The laser works fine otherwise. This is not a huge problem, but can slow down the working time. This seems to be a recent thing. It is a Lightburn issue. I tried using XCS and it engraved fine in the Y axis. You can see the in the preview mode that this will only fill in one axis. I cant find a setting to fix it. What other information can I provide? Any ideas?
Not sure what you mean by it will only fill on one axis. That is the normal behavior. The only way for it to fill on both axes is if you enable cross hatch. Then it will fill on the x axis completely and fill the Y axis after.
That is really only recommended for special circumstances and not general usage, since moving the entire gantry to fill on Y is moving a lot of mass.
Thanks Tim. I was under the impression that Lightburn would pick the most efficient axis to fill. Funny, I have used this machine quite a bit for 2 years and didnt realize it would fill on one axis only. I will change the scan angle and see if it is faster. Seems like moving the laser only would be faster than moving the gantry for filling. Thank you.
By default the fill is on the X axis, 0 degrees. That is the most efficient way.
Exactly. The laser head moves on the X axis. The entire gantry moving is the Y axis.
It is usually more efficient to rotate your workpiece to get a different engraving angle than to change from 0 scan angle. The preview window will help you determine which is faster. Also, sometimes slowing down your engraving speed ends up being faster due to overscan.
Thanks Tim. I really appreciate your patience. Frankly, I am embarrassed that after making hundreds of things with the laser over 2 years, that I never noticed this issue. I thought (until now) that I had a decent grasp of Lightburn. Now I will evaluate each project and bed orientation to consider the scan angle setting every time. As a side note: The wife mentioned today that in all the videos we watched to learn Lightburn, this setting was never discussed. Strange.
Thanks Again
