xTool P2 - lots of missing features - coming when? (or user error?)

Unfortunately few people read the terms and conditions on anything… :poop:

:smile_cat:

I can get to the point where you tell to select the camera but then i’m stuck.
In my list there is no camera.
I tried clicking “Main Camera”, restarting Lightburn, waiting, it just doesn’t show any camera in LB.
Moving the head around and turning on/off lights works perfectly though.

EDIT:

Okay, i forgot the step that was on github about changing the camera:

"Make sure Lightburn setting for camera is set “deafult capture system” ", that wasn’t in the video

Works like a charm now. Thanks mate!

Only thing missing now it P2 connecting to LightBurn via WiFi because having 3m of cable in the middle of the room kinda sucks…

I change my setting long time ago that I miss on the installation video.

I use lightburn for P2 in WIFI mode. You will need to redefine the device to use ethernet and give P2 IP address.

Sorry for the late response.
For some reason it works fine on my wife’s PC, just not on mine. Guess i will have to take another look at it.
Thanks.

On the livestream tonight they said they have reached out to the lightburn devs but never heard anything back.

Interesting.
You happen to have a link to that?

I asked if they have any plans to work with the lightburn devs to get the camera and autofocus working in lightburn.

It seems like an advertisement for xTool… plugging the P2 and the IR…

I was surprised that they both look slow…

Didn’t hear anything about Lightburn.

I’d think @Rick might know if they are in any kind of communication between xTool and Lightburn, but I’m afraid it’s just a pipe dream.

At around 36:54 Kai responded to my question.

“Lightburn is another company. We did actually message them before. But i think they dont have many… the team of them i think isnt so large so we didnt really have any further communication with them. We tried, but this is their business so if they have ai… they have other functions maybe you need to check with their website.”

Maybe if enough people bother them about it we can get the communication flowing. Its funny that they bring up using lightburn so frequently, with the current lack of support for many features.

I think a software without wifi connection is a waste. I am trying the trial software but am thinking of getting rid of it if they are not going to support wifi. can’t have a cord running through the whole room.

Note that some machines do support IP connections with LightBurn including with WiFi. Basically if the machine supports serial over Telnet it will work. Ortur LM3 is one example. If the machine has a proprietary wireless connection type then it wouldn’t currently be supported.

Having said that, xTool love their proprietary solutions.

We have a couple P2’s on hand (one for Support, one for Dev work). Improving compatibility for the P2 is definitely on our list, but as we’ve said before, we’re a small team in the middle of developing a whole new software product (MillMage), and that means we have to prioritize our time very carefully.

Policy dictates that we do not make promises on release dates - so I can’t give you an estimate as to when improved support will come, I can only tell you that it’s on the docket to be addressed when we can.

Yeah, even all over the site there’s the mention of Lightburn and tutorials for it and so on. Just for it to work on a basic level…

And reading again and again by Lightburn devs that “we’re just a small team and have few time to spare” isn’t getting my hopes up of getting anything noteworthy anytime soon :frowning:

I actually expected the team from Lightburn to be bigger - aren’t you guys like the market leader for this?

Aim and distance measure will be support for next release of P2Controller

Wonderful. Any date when you might get this feature working?

This will make LightBurn & P2 finally the couple it should’ve been right from the start!

A little question about the camera though: when in XCS, the picture from the camera seems different than when i take pictures via your tool. Does this have to do with the possibility of me doing something wrong or why is that?

Can you include the pictures so that I can see what is the different. The detail camera is raw. The xcs trim it and merge into main camera view.

Ah yes, that’s probably it.
No, sadly my trial ran out and i have to wait until you implement the missing features before i will buy LightBurn because it’s no use to me otherwise.

But yes, it’s probably the reason that you mentioned. Your pictures are somehow warped, a thing that XCS seems to change afterwards.

You need to perform camera calibration to unwarp the image. The unwarp image only corrected when you over lay. The camera view will always show actual (warp) image.

It’s a bit harsh to say that LB is useless on a P2. Having to edit a piece of gcode when you change material thickness is only a few seconds, and figuring out where to offset your design onto the material is not much worse unless the material is already pretty chewed up or you really need to see the design laid out on the material (e.g., if you are cutting inlay pieces out of veneer and need to look at the grain direction). Super annoying for sure, but not useless.

(I tried XCS but it really seemed primitive in comparison to LB, and it mishandled a DXF file that LB and Inkscape had no problem with. I had no experience with LB before a few weeks ago, so I was not prejudiced in favor of it out of the gate, in fact given the annoyances using LB with the P2 I wish I preferred XCS).
