Retired (health) at 51, killing time with my new Hobby of Laser Etching and Cutting.
I’ve been SIgnmaker, Designer and Engineer in my ‘colourful’ career, which put me in reasonable stead to toy around with some tech.
I’m not earning anything from it But the sheer quality of work that I’m producing is difficult to keep hidden, especially when I want to show everyone what I can do!
When I’m not repairing or making things, I’m at my Man Cave, with 4k projected on my wall to the left 3 PC’s in front of me, connected to machines and doing various other tasks, while I access the lot via my Spectre Laptop. One machine is dedicated to saving my eyes! I use an independent 1080p CCTV camera and webcam on Macro to watch over my lasers while they’re out of harms way (optically.
I have an i7 tower crammed with nvidia graphics hardware, 32gb of quick memory, with too many GB of storage inside to count. 2 X 3Tb Hd’s. a fast 500gb SSD to boot, silently whirring away in the corner, glowing a serious shade of green.
I have been known to repair laptops at a fairly deep level but I try not to broadcast it as ‘friends’ turn up from everywhere.
My passion is in the graphic design side of things and I’ve used Illustrator & Photoshop since 486’s were still in circulation.
Worked as Signmaker and Designer for a company in Yeovil, Somerset in the Naughties and got a taste for engraving when they acquired a decent CNC Engraver that was astronomically priced (higher end of 4 figures).
To be able to obtain the equipment today, that would have cost one an arm and a leg in the day is pure joy.
I love Lightburn software and own a license from a week or 2 ago, even though it crashes every time I connect it to my machine(s), but in conjunction with LaserGrbl, Illustrator and Photoshop, is a great team.
That’s enough about me
