1/16 acrylic engraving

So I have come into some 1/16 acrylic and thought I’d try it out for engraving. Seems to work fine. I have a few left over LED bases but these seem to be made for thicker acrylic. Essentially it sits at an odd angle and depending if you’re sitting or standing you may see a clear picture of the image or not. Any thoughts on engrave settings to get this to pop more? I’d like to use these up since they were free.

Instead of changing settings have you looked at a mechanical solution to allowing the acrylic to better rest in the base?

Could you create a bezel or adapter to restrict the size of the opening to better hold the acrylic?

Or is it a situation where the image isn’t ideal irrespective of position? If so, can you share a photo of what you’re dealing with?

I could just cut an extra piece off and double the base to make 1/8

Come to think of it that be a 1/8 inch slot. Idk what I was thinking :joy:

Still too big but the idea you gave is perfect. I will try that!

This is why I have a 3D Printer and a Laser.
Print a wedge / spacer that not only fills the void, but also blocks any escaping light.

Just my $.02.

I had the same issue. Plastic inserts are 2mm and the slot is specified as 0.18 inch (4.5mm)

I wanted to “double up” the lip that fits into the base, but didn’t want the light reflecting through this added piece.
Solution was to buy some 2mm black acrylic which cuts nicely with my diode laser, and some acrylic adhesive to join the pice to the engraved insert.
