I’ll be getting a new 10-Watt laser for Xmas. It will have safety glasses. I know some safety glasses do not accommodate for prescription eyewear. Even if this is not the case, I’d like to have a spare pair to have on hand for guests and such.
Any recommendations as to where to acquire the second pair? I’d venture to guess you just don’t purchase the first pair you see. What needs to be taken into consideration. I have seen they range from $10 up into the $100s.
The “safety glasses” shipped with diode lasers seem to be junk, surely because effective goggles are rather expensive, so don’t expect them to save your vision.
Russ Sadler made a video on laser beam safety, I felt it was pretty straight forward, although done with a co2.
There are at least 10’s of thousands, may 100’s of thousands of these diode machine, some very potent, being used by people with an IQ less than that of a bag of rocks… You never hear about any of them being blinded or eye damage. So I believe you can probably use the one shipped to you by the vendor… I have for years. I always wear safety glasses, as a rule.
Most of the ones I’ve seen and used do not work very well with normal eyeglasses.
There is no reason they can’t make a cheap lens that blocks whatever frequency this laser is… High dollars don’t always equate to high quality. My early led laser was $80, the whole gantry machine. I’m sure the glasses were even less costly… I still have them and use them.
There are no real calculations that I’m aware of and applicable to real life.
This is my opinion, just like the rest of everyone here… You’ve got to choose what you believe and/or how much you want to pay for the comfort you feel you need to protect your eyes.
