I have had a Two Trees TTS Pro 10W for about 6 months and am just about coming to terms with it. A month ago I bought a frame kit 400mm x 430mm and shortly afterwards a 20W laser. The kit arrived with incorrect cables and I’m still waiting for replacements. The laser seems to be OK but I don’t think that the power output is what it should be. It engraves, cutting is worse than useless. With the original 10W I could cut 4mm ply at 200mm/m 100% power in one pass. With the 20 W at the very beginning when I did some tests it would cut at 400mm/m at 100%. I was doing some cutting today and after 3 passes at 200mm/m and 100% it still hadn’t made a clean cut through. I realise that ply is not constant in quality but it doesn’t vary that much. With a change of laser do I need to change machine settings or firmware? S value is 1000. I’ve read the Lightburn docs and looked at some of the threads. Suggestions on what to do would be gratefully received.
As a start goto the below site and wall test your laser.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I’ll study it later today. I’m not sure how far I can strip a laser down but I’ll remove the nozzle to see if I can clean the lens. I was using an air assist with very low volume and it could be that that has caused problems. I have a mini compressor for an air brush which gives a good volume of air. I used it successfully on the 10W laser so perhaps I’ll get the same results with the 20W.
On dismantling the nozzle, this is what I’ve found. I’ve tried cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol but I the black appears to be etched into the glass. For the short time I have used it I could not have caused such damage. I think I’ve been sent a damaged returned unit. Words will be had with Two trees. I’m not happy with their service.
If you used a 20W laser at 100% without air assist and lasering an object that emits a lot of smoke, this can happen within minutes.
Not saying that this is the case here, but it can happen quite fast.
I can understand it being blackened but what is there is actually etched into the glass. You can feel irregularities in the lens. If I had been using it for sometime, my fault, but this was straight out of the box. There was air flow, both from a compressor and the laser internal fan. On the 10W laser there is no nozzle and the air blows across the lens leaving little or no residue. In about six months I’ve cleaned it twice. I wonder because the 20W has the nozzle there is a restricted air flow and is not allowing the smoke and soot to disperse fast enough.
I’ve asked the embassy here in Spain if there is anything I can do to solve the problem and also asked my bank if they can cancel the card transaction to try and get some response from TwoTrees. I’m still waiting for replies from both.
That’s expected. Dirt spots on the lens are heated up and then either burst a micro piece of glass out of the lens or get baked into it. That’s the common technique you also use to etch drinking glasses and those objects.
But still, this might not have happened here, I also read about used devices sent to customers, so that’s still an option as well.
Yes, it’s all speculation at the moment. Unfortunately there’s no one around here I can take the lens to for an evaluation. What bothers me more than anything is the lack of response from the manufactures on both the problems. They were quick enough to reply when I was interested in buying so they have the facilities to reply but these days this is all too common. I’m hoping that the bank can lock the payment. This will give me a bit of leverage and might solve the problem. They sell spare lenses but is this going to happen again after half an hour? That is what I want to know. If needs be I’ll modify the nozzle to reduce excess heat inside and more area for air to escape. I shall keep my finger crossed for a solution. Thanks for your ideas and info. It helps me sort my ideas out. I shall now go and reinstall the 10W laser and find some interest again.
I spent a couple of hours today cutting and etching and this is the result. Completely clean, no dirt, nothing. So what now?
Is that a lens or just protective glass and how do I get it out to change it?
