I think I found a bug. I brought up Material Test, changed some parameters, then moved the laser (XTool S1 10w) to the location I wanted the test to run. I hit Frame on the Materials Test page, and the head moved as expected. But when I hit Run, the head instead moved to the home position, and burned the material test there.
Further to this, when I did a regular cut, the “Job Origin” setting of “Current Position” was ignored and the cut started at ‘home’ (Top left corner, on the S-1.) The exact same file cut as expected (at the current location of the laser, rather than the home location) on 2.1.04
Does “Absolute Coords” work as expected?
We’re using a new protocol for xTool since RC-2, and I’m wondering if the laser always homes first when sending it a job.
So, if you can test this:
- Jog to the middle of the workarea
- Set Start From to “Absolute Coords”
- Engrave a simple rectangle in the middle of the workarea.
Does it home before starting the job, or start from the middle?
A coleague sent me his device profile we used for testing this. Can you import this to ensure we’re using the same settings?
xTool-S1-40w.lbzip (1.9 KB)
(Updated to remove the Start GCode)
I have a 10w laser. Would that LB configuration work for 10w?
OK, I’ll tackle this later this morning and report back.
I downloaded the S1-40w.lbzip file, launched RC2, then went to File->Import. But I was unable to select that file for importing
So I did the following with my existing laser defs:
-
drew a box, and set “Start From” to “Absolute Coords”
-
I pressed Frame, which ran where I expected. (sorry for the ugly photo)
-
Then pressed Run, and the box was cut where I expected.
-
I flipped the material over, and then changed “Start From” to “Current Position”
(I did move the box a bit within Lightburn) -
I ran Frame and the head moved where I expected.
-
Then I pressed Run, and the box was cut at (or near) the home location:
So my conclusion from this is there’s something going on with “Current Position”, and in particular, there is a difference in how Frame moves the laser (meeting expectations) to how Run moves the laser (not the same!)
I can continue posting here, or I can directly email stuff. Your choice, whatever works best for you.
Sorry, I said “Import” the file. The S1-40W.lbzip device profile can’t be imported the same way as you would an image.
To add this, you need to drag the file from the Downloads folder in Finder into the workarea in LightBurn, and select “Import”.
Or click the Devices button and select “Import” here
Can you send us the screenshot of your current settings, and re-run the same with the device profile I sent?
Change to this device by selecting it here:
I’m curious to see if it behaves differently.
Settings, the original 10w
The new 40w file
(Slight difference in pointer offset)
Also difference in “Enable Z axis” setting
Laser’s home position:
Laser’s frame position, returns to where I moved the head: (Start From set to Current Position)
Where the item was burned, laser moved to Home position rather than staying where I put it:
Bottom line no change. Run cuts in a different location than Frame moves the head. Frame’s positioning works as expected.
Oh, one more comment: For some reason, my Bose headphones show up in the Devices selection. When the laser is plugged in, it shows up, along with the headphones and “no device” When not plugged, I still see “no device” and Bose headphones. Those are turned off, so I have no idea why they’re showing up here. That’s the same behavior on the previous released version, so not a new/changed item.
I set everything up, turned the laser on, selected it, etc. In Console, I enabled “show all”. Then I drew a little box. I positioned the laser head in the middle of the material
- I pressed “Focus Z”
- I pressed “Frame” Frame did as expected, ‘drew’ the box at the location where the laser was located.
- I then pressed “Run” Run moved the head to the home position, and then cut the box.
