This is a body I made for a 2.2 crawler like Traxxas TX4 or Absima Sherpa and many other rc chassis, it fit on all those rc cars that have a 320-330mm wheelbase.
it does not reproduce any existing car.
the body is made with 3mm plywood and 1.5mm wood leaf on which I then covered with 50Gr/m2 fiberglass fabric and epoxy resin.
the weight is little more than a lexan body but it is much more resistant after the resin and fabric covering. I also painted the inside with resin.
maybe some modeler passionate about crawlers could find it interesting for one of his chassis
the hood has 2 versions, in the first assembly photos you can see the first version then I chose to modify it with a simpler version.
inside the project you find both.
I described the pieces in Italian language, in any case it is not difficult to understand which parts they correspond to.
I love to see laser cut items properly finished with paint and sanding! Lovely work, thank you for sharing this. I’m sure it will be inspirationally for anyone into RC thinking about doing a laser cutter project!
thank you, now I’m making 2 bodies for the Tamiya MF01X to which I mounted 15mm wideners and 96mm wheels
the first body is quite complex, inspired by the Kurogane 95 while the second is very easy, I invented it in a few hours very spartan to take the car to the countryside without suffering if it gets scratched.
Really slick! Interesting, I would think the PC bodies would be a lot lighter than the wood+filler+fabric+resin version. My Tamiya 1/10 4WD and radio were stolen some time ago. This makes me want to build another one.
Most likely true and raises the center of gravity a bit as well, but unless used in a competition, I’d guess added weight increases realism on how the car moves.
And nothing prevents one from using those great looking bodies (with slight modifications of course) for vac-form moulds if light weight is required.
Great work in any case, thanks for sharing @wrighizilla .
it depends on the type of RC car, I would never put a wooden body on a racing car but for a scaler/crawler that weighs about 2-3kg it doesn’t even notice the wood on it.
in the end a scaler type body with accessories doesn’t weigh less than mine made of wood and fiber.
making the mold is not worth it, 3mm plywood is a very good support once resined it is really solid and not very heavy.
anyway it’s fun to draw and invent your own RC bodies, I made this Martian rover for a Tamiya G6-01 a really funny toy.
if someone builds it I would be honored, I bought the Tamiya G6-01 as a toy without much hope that it would be a good companion for walks in the woods, instead it proved to be a good crawler, almost a tank and in the end it always went everywhere.
it mounts a 17.5T sensored brushless motor and with a 5000mAh lipo I travel almost 20km on the plain without exceeding the speed.
I designed the body so that it has nothing on the front, it is smooth to climb on the stones.
this is the flatbed version on G6-01TR (Dynahead) chassis, I have two of them.
