I have 2 different models of Mecpow laser engravers, 1 is a 10W and the other is a 33W. They are both showing up as the same machine. when I select one, whichever was last turned on responds. I need to be able to use both machines at the same time in separate windows. Any help would be appreciated.
Try changing the name of at least one of them. They should be assigned to different COM Ports. As long as you don’t change the USB port you’re connected to Lightburn should connect properly. With them named differently you should be able to decide which one you are working with.
Tried that, but it makes no difference which one is selected, when I turn it on, it says OK and runs. Issue is that one is a 600x600 and the other is 400x800. And once 1 connects, it can’t find the other one.
Are they both connected to the same hub or individually connected to the PC?
Both to the same hub as I only have 2 USB ports on the laptop.
That might be the problem. I’m not a Windows guru but I think it’s device manager that should show you what COM Ports are being used. You can plug and unplug your lasers and see if it assigns 2 different COM Ports or if it only assigns one to the last one plugged in.
It does assign different com port Com 4 and Com 6, but because they use the same gcode, I assume, it just picks whichever one is turned on. I know there has to be a way, but I am stumped. Thanks for helping, I really appreciate the whole community approach to this hobby.
Try assigning/renaming one at a time. Unplug one and make sure it’s assigned to that Com port. Then unplug that one and plug the other one in and assign/rename it to that Com port. If that doesn’t work, I’m stumped.
I’ll try that in a while. I have a project running that will take a couple hours. Thanks for taking the time to try to help. This has me stumped for sure. I just got my 33W set up and haven’t been able to use it yet, and then, I run into this issue. I’ll try what you suggested a bit later.
Are you running windows 11 on the LT? If so, you need to start a second desktop and run one laser from that desktop and the other laser from your first desktop. Must be on different com ports and you will eat up two LightBurn licenses.
Maybe you have to mess a bit with windows…:
It is indeed running Windows 11 Pro, But before I sold my Ortur laser, I could have them both loaded in different windows of Lightburn and it let me use them both at the same time. I am stumped by this. I truly believe it is because they are both made by the same company.
When I’m running both of my fibers at the same time I need 2 Lightburn’s open. I then go to the port selection and select the port manually on both instances. I do a framing quickly to verify it’s hooked to the correct machine.
Yeah, that might work, But I think I will have the same issue, only double if I do it that way. LOL
That is what I did when I had my Ortur on one window and my Mecpow on the other. I sold the Ortur and bought a new bigger mecpow. So now both machines are Mecpow and I think that is the issue.
The settings become independent for each instance set one as Lightburn_600x600 and the other to Lightburn_400x800 with only one device in each.
Only if they both use the same COM port.
I have 3 Sculpfun machines and they all get assigned the same COM 6 by windows. Having 3 notebooks and 3 LB licenses solves the problem for me.
