8MP 120W camera setup for extended XToolD1Pro

I’ve setup my 8MP 4K-W 120W camera on my XTool D1 Pro with the extended bed and have a problem.

In the Camera dialog/panel, I get a full view of the entire bed with no problem. However, when I do a ‘Update Overlay’ I only see about 2/3 of the bed and if my media is over the edge of the camera overlay I get a message saying it will not engrave the area outside the overlay image.
Is there an adjustment I need to make to tell the software that this is an extended machine?

Most webcams have a provision for Theatre or widescreen image capture.

With this in mind, to capture Extended Y-axis work areas click Edit, Click Settings, and turn on the “Rotate captures 90 degrees” switch at the bottom left of that window. Carefully click OK after making the change. Then physically rotate the camera so the image is upright for your engraver again.

I used to advise folks to turn the camera 90 degrees and then flick the switch. That would only be right 50% of the time.

This allows the camera to work in the Theatre (or widescreen) mode inherent in its design and will allow you to capture the shape you want.

Let us know if this works as intended for your set-up.

It’s a Lightburn 8MP 4K-W 120W camera. I can’t find anywhere in the settings to rotate the camera image

How high is the camera mounted? Seems to me like you need to be substantially higher than it currently is.

You can find the setting that @JohnJohn is referring to in Edit->Settings.

It is at the minimum +2 required for this camera combo. Can’t go any higher.

What is the absolute height?

OK found it, but now no capture image in the layout screen, just in the camera pane. AAAARG! Even if I go back and turn off rotate capture

Try going to a backup prefs file using Files->Load Prefs Backup.

Don’t ask what the major change was. Ran the calibration routines several times after changing various settings and finally hit on a combo that worked. Full view of the extended bed with minimal distortion. Not gonna ask why, just glad it finally works. Thanks for the input and help.

What settings did you end-up with? Did you end up making any physical changes to the camera?

I did try rotating the mount 90 degrees as well as using the software setting. Ended up leaving the Rotate Capture 90 degree setting on and returning the camera to its original position. Other than that I think the difference was mainly doing a more thorough Lens calibration and printing a larger calibration pattern for the camera calibration.

Thanks for the update.

Is the camera mounted such that it’s oriented in portrait mode so that it fits the long portion of the bed? So basically rotated 90 degrees from normal “webcam” operation?

Camera is oriented in portrait position although my whole setup is sideways from the unextended original so it looks like it’s in landscape. Wish it would let me post a pic to explain without confusion.
