Hey everyone!
Iām trying out some V-Carving in the current RC (MillMage Core (Pro Trial Mode) 0.9.00-RC-2 @ 3cc3770 Qt6.11.1). There seems to be an issue with the Rest Pocket Operation, when the āStock to leaveā Parameter is bigger than the tool.
It could be that Iām using the operation the wrong way, but I wanted to make sure, that the V-Carving Operation has plenty of material left, without having to remove everything.
looking at it from my point of view, I havenāt used view paths , so unsure on how thatās meant to look,
i just use preview and add different paint colours to see what its doing
in preview to me it looks like rest pocket is taking out to much material which is due to depth, and isnt giving you the relief carve u want ,see how your getting minimal angle on edge,
i cant explain the reason behind that , its over my head, i think its more how V carve operates than a rest pocket issue
i see ur ramp and doc are low on your v bit are you using a hard wood , Iām curious as still learning myself and always interested to understand others reasoning
Iām trying to do some inlaying and remove all the hills, that are left over from the V-Carve Operation. For that, I want to replicate the effect of using a clearance tool, as available in Vectric and Carveco.
With a 1/4 inch V-Bit, the deepest point is inset by 1/8 inch. So I want to clear everything up to 1/8 inch (or 3,125mm, but you can only set two decimal places in this field).
V-Carving with the standard stepover takes 3:48h and still has a rough surface.
Clearing out with a 1/8" endmill and V-Carving takes 3:00h.
And clearing out with 1/4" endmill, doing the rest with 1/8" inch endmill and then V-Carving is even faster, but might not be worth the tool change, I just realised.
Even better would be, if the clearence was part of the V-Carving. The the V-Carving bit would not need to run most of the path. Or if you could set a Clearing Tool Diameter, as in the Rest Pocket Operation. Writing it, I think itās a great Idea.
Devs: Please add a Clearing Tool Diameter Parameter to the V-Carving Operation.
Regarding my speeds: Iām a novice myself, so Iām using the conservative settings, given in the default tool library.
And btw, I realised, setting any āStock to leaveā in the Rest Pocket Operation breaks the operation and makes it do a normal Pocket without stock to leave.
i think what it could be is something i encounted way back in early rcs , its a pocket in a pocket so for stock to leave you need to put a negative number , confusing at 1st yes, but makes sence after a while , there is a topic explaining it , because you have 3.2 stock to leave it is taking it to the edge and wont go past line so is ignoring stock to leave request
with a 0.5mm tool and -0.5mm stock to leave, it looks to be doing as i would suspect
