A few of my recent wood creations on my acmer p2 10w. Used my home made wood marking spray. You can find some of these designs on laser-pics.com later in the week as i have time to upload them!

Awesome!! I have done some deep engraving and those are are beautiful. My machine is an Xtool S1 40w. What did you use?

These are flat engravings are they not? And do you use Borax?

Thank you! These were done on my acmer p2 10w!

Yes flat engravings with 0 depth and i used a homemade marking spray. Typically id share but i am trying to make a formula unlike anything out that i could potentially bring to market! Short answer is yes and no.

how long does one of those take to run?

What is marking spray? Can you explain workflow?

On my acmer p2 10w at 60mms and 508dpi they take around 45 minutes

Great question! I sand the raw wood with 400g paper to remove the burs (each wood is different and may require more sanding, the most important thing is that the wood is very smooth), i apply the marking spray and allow to dry completely (takes around 1hr in a nonhumid area but could take more depending on humidity and geography), i quickly qnd gently sand again with 400g, then laser! Depending on the shading in the image i would immediately seal with lacquer, though it may not be necessary. I will make a video of my workflow this weekend!

my guess is, it turns dark when you laser it, allowing for awesome shading without burning as far into the wood, or generating as much smoke. seeing as the laser is only 10w i would think it’s mandatory for these results?

Great explanation! On almost any diode it is mandatory for these exact results. The latter would be actually engraving true 3 dimensional depth (even just light depth to achieve contrast) in which the effect would not be the same and you are very susceptible to wood grain/ glue deposits!

I wish i knew marking spray was a thing. Does it work on stained or painted wood? And is it clear i assume?

If you’ve tweaked the formula 10 times, start selling it as formula 10. If you perfect it at version 36 later, start also selling formula 36 and gradually push your customers away from formula 10, and phase it out.

Just don’t change anything without renaming it…

I have not tested stained or paunted wood but i will definitely add it to my list of trials! Great question! It has a very light white pigmentation. If applied sporadically there is no change in wood color. However if you apply more than one coat you can lighten the wood tone. The more coats added the lighter it gets until it is white washed.

That being said, you gotta make sure what youre selling is safe to laser. Nothing is safe to laser and breathe, but some things are really bad to laser as we all should know. I’m not a lawyer, and not a doctor, nor a chemist.

What’s an sds

Safety data sheet. Basically a government requirement for any applicable substance. It discloses the composition, flammability, respirabilty, etc.
