Added laser to cnc machine

Hello All,

Laser noob here looking for input/help…not sure if this is the right area to post this

I’ve added a Lasertree K40 40W diode laser to my 1010 workbee running a blackbox controller, no limit switches and Lightburn software on a windows 10 PC. I have a toggle to switch between laser and router running off of the PWM port and dust collector running off ground of the “coolant”port. the issues I am having are:

  1. No matter what percentage power output I choose it doesn’t change, it runs like it’s on 10% power and the lines it burns look “grainy” not sharp, I had a 10W on there before that would burn a nice crisp line, now it’s doing the same as the 40W. The only thing I changed was I installed the power supply that came with the 40W laser wasn’t sure if the Openbuilds power supply could take the added 6 amp draw. Focus doesn’t change things

  2. No matter what speed I choose it only moves at 1 speed. I can put in to run 20 in/min or 500 in/min it still runs at the same speed

  3. Some times when I turn on the machine before connecting the USB cable, the laser fires at full compacity and burns a hole in whatever is under it. I disconnect he laser connection to stop it and plug it back in and it seems to function (with the exceptions listed above). I’m guessing some settings somewhere are not set correctly allowing it get to full power or speed change

I only added the laser(s) about 2 weeks ago so it’s not a new problem as of changing out one for the other, I don’t think the 10W was putting out 100% either, as this is my first time with lasers.

Here’s my current laser $$ settings:
