I have an Omtech 80w and I am coming across issues with my air assist. There is a trail of fire every time I go to run a cut project. It immediately stops when I pause the machine. I also have physically felt under the nozzle and there is air, however I don’t think it is very powerful. (I am having trouble remembering what it felt like before though.) I am having a hard time cutting through anything at the moment without running the project multiple times which sometimes chars it due to the fire. My mirrors are cleaned and aligned as well. My questions are 1)Is there another issue this could be besides air assist? 2) I ordered a pressure gauge kit but it won’t be here for 2-3 weeks. I plan to order an air compressor as well but can get that on amazon or locally pretty quickly. To my understanding you need one of those kits and cannot just hook up an air compressor. Is there a quick fix so I don’t disrupt my business too much? Thanks so much for any assistance anyone has!
If the laser is firing during moves, when it should be off, then the problem is a failing high-voltage power supply:
If the laser is firing at the correct times, but does not cut correctly, the laser tube may have failed by no longer resonating in the TEM00 mode allowing focusing to a clean spot.
This lengthy discussion covers the problem and how to test for it:
More assist air will not cause or cure either of those problems.
A quick question about the air. Have you had a chance to clean out the air pump filter that is on the back of your laser? That is if you have the Marker Series model. It is a screen that over time does get clogged up and doesn’t allow the air flow to be exhausted out the back of the laser cabinet from the stock compressor.
