I have a Sculpfun S30 that I have been using for well over a year. I recently had an issue with the power cord and had to switch it out from the original. The air assist hasn’t worked since my initial problem. Checked and changed settings to and from M8. Checked connections. The only thing different is the power cord input is 1.7A vs 2.0A on original adapter, output the same. Could that be the problem? The “official” one listed is $30 so I was trying not to spend that much when there are others on Amazon for half the price…
What is the output voltage and current for both supplies?
Good pictures of the data plates will be helpful.
The key figure is the output current and I expect the new supply will be proportionally lower than the old one, which means it is incapable of providing the current required by all the laser hardware. This is particularly true of low-end Amazon junk, where the maximum current “spec” is optimistic, if not outright fictional.
Buy a known-good “official” supply from Sculpfun, write this one off to experience, and move on.
A wild guess but it is possible that you have the mains wires crossed and other wiring issues .
The relay might only switch one wire . You need to meter the connections in any case.
By power cord, I presume you mean power supply.
Perhaps the air assist pump caused the original power supply failure. The components inside the small enclosure on the pump’s wire are known to fail.
What’s the output of your adaptor? It’s usually better to increase that one. If it’s the 5 or 10W version, it should be 12V and I suggest using a 12V 10A power supply. If it’s the 20W version, then use a 24V 7A or bigger power supply.
Did you check the pump by connecting the connector to 12/24V directly? Then it should turn on right away. If it doesn’t, it’s the pump, not the rest.
