Hi. Im using Algolaser Alpha 22W for about a year or so and everything has been working smoothly. A few days ago I changed my right Y axis belt and it has been working properly until now, when I try starting my laser and it tries to home it just slams into the border screws and it keeps slamming until I press the Emergency button. Belts are properly tightend and I dont see any issues regarding the hardware so I was thinking it could be software related.
I’ve been getting this message in console:
Check to make sure the limit switch hasn’t shifted out of position and that the wires are properly connected.
I’m not sure where the limit switches are on your machine. On mine they are external and easily visible. This article might be useful.
yep, found them, checked them. They seem fine, everything is plugged in and I cannot find anything looking abnormal. I tried restarting my laptop and machine but its still the same. Any idea what else could be causing the issue? Thanks in advance
No, if they’re connected and the gantry is contacting them properly I’m not sure. It could be a faulty switch, although that is rare.
Just making sure I understand everything correctly. Machine has been working properly. You replaced a belt. It still worked properly for a couple days until now. When you turn the laser on it moves toward the same corner it always has for homing and just grinds in the corner until you hit the emergency stop. Is all this correct?
Yep, just like that, I cant start it without that happening
OK, lets try an experiment. If you can touch the limit switches with your finger, with the laser off, slowly move it to the opposite corner from the switches. Turn the laser on and as soon as it starts moving touch the limit switches in turn. Make sure not to get your fingers pinched. When you press one the laser should stop moving toward it, then press the other and the laser should stop moving in that direction.
If it stops in both directions, double check that the gantry is properly hitting the limit switches. One is probably just out of reach.
If it doesn’t stop in a particular direction, that is the faulty limit switch circuit. It may be a switch, wiring, or a problem with the control board. That will require further diagnosis with a multimeter.
Software issues the Home command. Once that happens, it is all up to the controller and machine.
